Langley MicrobladingFounded in July of 2007, Mandi Trickett decided to take a leap of faith and start her own business. With over 18 years of experience in the aesthetic industry, jump forward to today, ten years later, Mandi, is now running an extremely popular and well-sought out business, Avenue 42.

Services you can find at Avenue 42 include, permanent makeup including microblading, permanent eyeliner, and lips. Other services offered are En-Vogue gel nails, Shellac manicures, pedicures, brow waxing, lash and brow tints.

When most people think of businesses that are thriving, it must mean that a lot of hard work and dedication has been put in years prior… that was just the case for Mandi. Having worked in other salons for countless years, she was working in the Murrayville area doing esthetics and nails (which she is licensed for) before opening her own.

It all started when the salon took new ownership…and let’s just say Mandi and the new owner didn’t get along, resulting in her termination. However, because of this “bump in the road” Mandi saw her clients following her into this next journey. Something deep down inside of her knew a change was coming and she definitely took the bull by the horns.

Over the first few weeks of being a one-woman show, Mandi started doing client’s nails, pedicures and facial waxing – all things she could do from the comfort of her townhouse. Scared of not knowing what was next, her loyal clients stuck with her throughout all those years and even to this day.

Sadly in 2010, things came to a bit of a standstill. After being injured in a car accident, Mandi’s hands never fully recovered. What she used to love doing such as nails become a grueling and painful task. Changing her business focus, Mandi began brainstorming. She immediately recalled having her eyeliner tattooed on – and loved the results she got from that. With more work and perseverance, that took a few years of training and implementation, this service is now provided in studio.

It wasn’t until January of 2014 that Mandi was able to build a full fledged studio right next to her beloved home. Since then she has now grown her team; consisting of 2 part time nail tech’s and 1 full time, plus herself.

Being in business for ten years is no easy task, it is a true testament when a community loves a business and it flourishes. As Mandi notes, “we teach people how to treat us. We need to have strong boundaries, and that it’s okay to say no”. As someone who is reliable and punctual she is definitely an inspiration for other business owners to aspire to be like.

For those wanting to follow in her footsteps, make sure to get the proper training; no cutting corners! Always be respectful of others, their time, and even get yourself a mentor in your designated field. It is extremely important to surround yourself with like-minded individuals and if you have a dream, chase it.
